Engineering Degree Types

Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering

An undergraduate degree which includes the basic engineering practices used to design public sanitation projects, roads, bridges, dams and other infrastructure. It typically requires graduates to pass licensure examination in order to be authorized to provide engineering services to the public.

Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering

The primary field of engineering which equips students with skills to solve even the most complicated challenges in design, propulsion, and systems for aircraft and/or super-craft. This is done in a four year academic program which includes basic sciences, engineering science, mathematics, communication courses, among others.

Bachelor’s in Bio-Medical Engineering

A four-year degree that equips students with the skills to plan, investigate, design, manufacture and maintain systems and equipment that are used in all aspects of health care. It involves the use of electronics, computer systems and mechanical devices to enhance health care and health services for the betterment of the quality of human life.

Bachelor’s in Petroleum Engineering

A degree that teaches students on how to put into practice the scientific understanding and technology in the exploration and administration of hydrocarbon resources while protecting and preserving the environment. This 4-year degree includes a combination of college-level mathematics with basic sciences, developing a working knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, material properties, transport situations, material strengths, and phase behavior.

Bachelor’s in Bio-Mechanical Engineering

A degree that teaches students in the research , development, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. While this is to be completed in 4 years, some students need 5 years due to the extensive work requirements.

Bachelor’s in Environmental Engineering

A degree that trains students in both prevention and correction of negative effects on the environment. This 4-year degree teaches students concepts of hydraulics and thermodynamics to manage pollution, how ethics and safety influence environmental decisions and maintain healthy air, water and land for the welfare of populations including businesses and communities.

Bachelor’s in Mining Engineering

A degree that teaches students in working with every part of the extraction of resources from the ground. This 4-year degree includes focus areas ranging from surface and underground mining, to physical and mathematical sciences.

Bachelor’s in Marine Engineering

A four-year degree that focuses on the construction, operation, and maintenance of various kinds of marine vessels such as cruise ships, cargo ships, fishing boats, battleships and submarines. In this degree, students will learn how to put into practice the principles of engineering to systems that help seafaring vessels, docks and other aquatic entities function.

Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering

A branch of engineering that uses the principles of physical sciences, life sciences, together with applied mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use chemicals, materials and energy. It is typically a 4-year course which focuses on the scientific principles underlying modern chemical and biochemical engineering.

Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering

A four-year degree which focuses on the relationship between computer hardware and software systems. It includes a combination of software-related classes in operating systems, networks and programming languages with hardware-related courses including fiber optics, memory components and microprocessors.

Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering

A degree which deals with the study of how electricity can be used in power systems, control systems, electronics and telecommunications. This degree can be obtained in four or five years, learning theories and principles of engineering, physics and mathematics.

Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering

A degree where students learn to create, design, manufacture and maintain mechanical devices, engines, parts and systems and industrial facilities. It usually requires students to complete 128 credit hours of courses in a variety of categories, which include: College of Engineering core, intellectual breadth, ME program specific courses, and general electives.

Bachelor’s in Nuclear Engineering

A degree that covers all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle: from mining to plant operation and lastly waste management. This 4-year program is organized to incorporate laboratory courses, field trips and research projects with core course material in order to give students the maximum preparation for this field.

Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering

A four-year engineering program that prepares students in both intermediate and advanced industrial engineering skills. It has a unique concentration system that entitles students to earn a BS IE specializing in areas such as Supply Chain Engineering, Operations Research, Economic and Financial Systems, Statistics with Quality and General Industrial Engineering.
