Associate’s Degree Types

Associate of Arts

Requires 60 Semester hours Credit, includes  15 to 20 hours of elective coursework  Regionally Accredited Schools are best for credit transfer. Associate of Arts degree are typically designed as a stepping stone into a bachelor’s degree program.

Associate of Science

Requires 60 Semester hours Credit,  for students planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in several areas such as engineering, chemistry, agriculture, biology,  computer science,  mathematics, and physics. Associate of Science degree is different from the Associate of Arts degree differ in the level of mathematics and science courses required.

Associate of Applied Science

Requires 60 Semester hours Credit, Unlike Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, which are basically transfer degrees, the Associate of Applied Science degree is designed for students who intend to enter the workforce following graduation. Most AAS degree programs require students to choose a direction early in the program so they are prepared for  career positions within a specific field.

Associate of Engineering

60 Semester Hours Credit, The Associate in Engineering degree is a program that prepares students to transfer to a four-year college or university offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Calculus is a requirement.

Associate of Political Science

Political science majors examine the  function of governments along with the behavior of rulers throughout history. Political science graduates may pursue careers in government or public service,  as elected politicians,  staffers, or consulting analysts.
